Tokyo Table

Diamond Jamboree shopping center in Irvine has a plethora of great Asian dining choices. I had the pleasure of a “date” lunch with my husband a few days ago. We decided on Tokyo Table. It wasn’t the first time we tried it but the previous two times we did take out. This was the first time actually dining in the restaurant. To me, a great experience involves amazing food, excellent customer service and an ambiance that complements everything else. Walking in we were pleasantly surprised at the decor. An amazing chandelier hung near the bar. (So bummed I missed getting the pic!) I kept hearing Sia in my head. As we walked to our table, I loved the artwork depicting downtown Tokyo including the famous Tokyo Tower. (That is pictured above.)

We both started with a Sapporo. I can’t NOT have one in a Japanese restaurant. To share we ordered Edamame and the Bacon Wrapped Shrimp Skewers. Both were average.

The wow factor came with our entrees. I ordered the Ishiyaki Stone Bowl with Garlic Shrimp. Ishiyaki stone cooking is a traditional Japanese method of cooking. The stone is heated to 500 degrees and the food is placed in the bowl, stirred and sits until the food is cooked to the consumers taste. Tokyo Table does this table side. My bowl came with Shrimp, garlic, white wine, red chili, basil, dried onion, tomato and rice. Oh so yummy!

David is a huge noodle fan. He ordered the Garlic Shrimp Wok Noodles. They take garlic noodles, shrimp, white wine, onions, cabbage, carrots and bean sprouts and wok stir them all together. All and all the flavors in both dishes were about the same. Absolutely delicious! The server was very attentive and agreed that anything on the menu with garlic is a win!

Some of the details:

  • Free parking but can get busy. It’s in a shopping center.
  • Average price per meal about $15-20
  • Causal vibe and casual dress
  • Great for groups and kids
  • Outdoor seating but next to a busy street and parking lot (no view)

We would totally go back. Saving on the short list!
